Growing up.

Two days ago, Kaetana started walking. Out of the blue, absolutely no warning. Now I'm sitting here watching her walk around the living room, stopping to pick things up and play, and I'm thrown in to this whirlwind of emotion. My baby isn't so much a baby anymore and it's a strange mix of panic, pride, sadness and elation going through me all at once. She'll be 1 in a few short weeks and I'm feeling a little lost as I venture in to this new stage of her life; from baby, to toddler. She's a little person these days with likes and dislikes, opinions on things, and a fierce attitude. She's beautiful and amazing and the smartest child ever (I'm convinced.) 

I know this will happen again and again in my/her lifetime, and I doubt it will ever get any easier. This is the cross I bear as a mother, I suppose. I just need to get used to it.

Kaetana - 11 Months

Oh, hi, remember me? No? I'm not surprised. It's been a while. And will remain to be a while because my computer is still broken and I'm just popping on to say hi, post a photo and tell you a little bit about Kaetana! :)

Thanks right, my little stinkbug is 11 months old! Has been, in fact, for about a week and it's CRAZY. She's suddenly doing all these new things and I'm kind of freaking out. She's pretty much a professional "cruiser" along furniture and whatnot now, and has started standing up on her own (without holding onto anything I mean) and it's awesome. She's really proud of herself every time she stands up and gets so excited most of the time she falls right back over haha. She has started doing this really adorable little dance every time any music comes on - always accompanied with a big grin - and is completely crazy about anything that makes her move. She is an eating machine, and is starting the transition away from formula and bottles. I'm a little nervous about taking her bottle away from her completely, so we're going to stall on that for a while. We haven't given her milk yet, either, because we're waiting to hear whether goat's milk is cool. I'm lactose intolerant and it would seem she is as well. Poo for her. Anyways - that's pretty much it at the moment. I'll try really hard to pop back at some point but I make no promises.

Aaand we're cruisin'!

She's been doing this for about a week now. She's also pushing her table toy thing (ya know, the one with all the sweet musical toys attached to the top) around the house. She can walk perfectly along furniture, and has started taking an independent step or two to get from one thing to the next. It's exciting and scary all at once!

Can we please stop time now?

Because I seriously can't take this!

She stood up yesterday, but I didn't have the camera. 

My baby girl is getting too big, too fast.

Kaetana - 7 months

Kaetana is now 7. Months. Old.

How the heck did that happen?!

She's growing beautifully and was actually sick this past week so we had a chance to find out how much she weighs when we took her to the doctor. She's 17 1/2 lbs which is so crazy to me haha where did my little 7 lb baby go?? Anyways, this month has definitely been the very best and I love how much she's learned and grown lately. She's super smart and it's always a chore trying to keep her entertained and interested!

This month Kaetana:

- started crawling(!)

- says ba-ba and ma-ma over and over again

- started laughing a little more

- is obsessed with Spongebob

- is extremely interested in all food, and has tried several new kinds including sweet potato fries, noodles and mashed potatoes

- has been able to sit herself up from a laying position a few times

- has two teeth and I think a couple more coming in

- can drink successfully from a Nuby sippy cup and LOVES it

- pulled herself up to standing once

I really am immensely proud of this sweet girl this month, and am THRILLED to see her future changes!! I am getting started on the early stages of planning her first birthday party now and it's really exciting. I think I've got the color scheme picked out so now it's just a matter of collecting the items I need! It's going to be tough because her birthday is smack dab in the middle of Thanksgiving and Christmas. Poor thing.

Feeding Herself

Kaetana has recently found new joy in feeding herself.

She's not too bad at it, either.

{photographic evidence} The tooth...er...teeth...!

It's been a busy week over here in Kaetana's mouth. She sprouted two, read it TWO, teeth in just a few days! After lots of crying and biting and over all miserable-ness it's over and they're out. They still have some sprouting to do but at least they've broken the gum and they're the cutest little teeth I ever did see. And now for the photographic evidence!:

Learning Sounds

Kaetana has been learning so much so fast lately! The other day we were hanging out and I thought I'd try and teach her a new sound, 'bah'. She hasn't really gotten in to the babbling stage yet and I wanted to scoot her along in to that because I really want to hear her say Mama and Dada! haha so anyways, we were working on it and she wasn't really understanding (she kept starting the 'b' sound and transitioning in to blowing raspberries instead.) We did it off and on for about 3 hours until she finally got it! She was so proud of herself I had to take a video. Unfortunately it's sideways because I always forget that about my phone, so I apologize for that. I really need to get a video camera. Here she is being really proud of herself!

She's obsessed with making this noise now, and it cracks me up!

A tooth!

Well, it's official. Kaetana has her first tooth, and I'm totally freaking out at how fast she's growing. It's so cute, on the front bottom right side. (Does that make sense?) She's not too thrilled about the whole situation, though. She has been a total crab the past 5 days or so and the poor dear might have a few more days of discomfort as the tooth makes the last of its trip out of hiding. She's been chewing on everything she can get her hands on - including mine - and that little sucker is pretty sharp. We have this cool teether, though, that's shaped like a star and vibrates when she bites on it. That's her favorite thing as of right now, second only to a little smear of baby orajel. ;)

I can't believe she's over half a year old, and I still can't get over how much she's changed. She has begun eating a lot more "people" food and is loving it! We got her one of those mesh feeders a few weeks ago and she's obsessed with it. She's had strawberries, cantaloupe, raspberries, grapes, watermelon, black and red plum, apples, banana, pear and mango in it. This girl loves her fruit! I am going to put some cut up steamed carrots in it today and see what happens. She loves vegetables in pureed form so I'm sure she'll be just as happy. And now with that little tooth it will make food eating that much more enjoyable for her. :)


p.s. I'll try and get a photo of said tooth soon, but as of right now she's not cooperating with me.
